The story of four plants in the Bury Botanic Garden (talk)

May 18 @ 14:00 14:45

Paul Marsh is a keen gardener who has been working as a volunteer with Abbey Gardens Friends for three years.  He has became a bit obsessed with discovering how the garden evolved since 1820, and gives entertaining talks on the Gardens that cover a range of topics, such as historical context, people, characters and events, the origins and cultivation of plants there, and the Gardens and the Herveys of Ickworth .

Paul will give a brief overview of the creation of the Bury Botanic Garden by Mr Nathaniel Hodson in 1820 then talk about four very different plants which graced the garden under his direction – namely, a fruit, a vegetable, a flower and a weed! Stand by for some interesting revelations which still have a resonance to this day.
