Preventing Plastic Pollution
June 9 @ 19:00 - 20:00
Plastic pollution is sadly one of the more recent forms of river pollution to be identified and must now take its place amongst other critical pollution issues to be confronted.
The EU is funding the Preventing Plastic Pollution project led by Dr Iwan Jones of the UK Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) to understand better how to tackle the 4 million tonnes of plastic that enter the sea from our rivers.
An important part of the research is to select particular rivers in France and the UK where the nature and type of plastics found can be categorised by volunteer groups, asked to report back on the plastics found both in the river and on the banks/any areas adjacent to the river.
A speaker from the FBA will talk about the research all the UK and French research partners to do and encourage BWMG volunteers to come forward to help.
In the webinar a date will be announced for a Zoom session to get BWMG volunteers started in Bury St Edmunds (starting areas will be banks and riparian green spaces). BWMG will be the first group, with RLCP organising things downstream.
All welcome. Register in advance here
